Commencing in 1979 and continuing until 2005, Martin Sloane wrote more than 3,000 newspaper columns and was America’s best known supermarket advice columnist.  The United Feature Syndicate column appeared twice each week in as many as 450 daily newspapers across the nation.  At one time or another, it appeared in most of the nation's major markets.

His highly regarded column covered almost every aspect of  supermarket shopping.  Each week, he wrote about experiences that are shared by millions of shoppers and he replied to their "Dear Martin" letters.

Martin Sloane has appeared on The Today ShowLive with Regis and Kathie Lee  and Good Morning America.”  He was the host of the Sunday afternoon “Food Show” on the popular station WOR Talk Radio in New York.  For several years, Martin was the consumer promotion reporter for Food News & Views on the cable "Food Network."

He was a spokesperson for MasterCard, introducing the use of the card in supermarkets.  He assisted in the introduction of Almond Delight cereal for Ralston Purina.  He assisted in the introduction of consumer self-scanning for Symbol Technologies.

Martin wrote the “Guide to Coupons & Refunds” series for Bantam Books in 1981 and 1982 and the “10 Minute Shopper” for Berkley Books in 1995. His columns have appeared in "Woman’s Day" and "Woman’s World" magazines. He has also been a contributor to grocery industry publications including "Supermarket News."

Martin Sloane introduced The National Easter Seals Society to the sponsorship of Sunday newspaper coupon inserts. During his involvement, this program raised more than eight million dollars for Easter Seals.  Martin was a leader in the campaign that sent approximately $25 million in grocery coupons to military bases overseas to help needy service families stretch their grocery budgets at their commissaries and post exchanges.

For 24 years, Sloane sponsored the annual “Supermarket Shopper Poetry Competition.”  Each year, thousands of readers put their grocery shopping experiences into verse and entered this delightfully unusual competition.  On behalf of the National Alliance of Supermarket Shoppers, Martin presented the annual “Golden Shopping Cart Awards” to supermarkets and grocery product manufacturers for outstanding performance.  He created the “Paper Bag Art Competition,” in cooperation with the International Paper Company.

Martin graduated with honors from Syracuse University and from the New York University School of Law.  He served as a captain and special-agent-in-charge of an investigative field office for the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps.
